Arsenal midfielder maestro Mesut Ozil is keen to join Manchester United from Arsenal next summer, according to stories.
The Sunday Mirror suggests that the Germany international will opt to run down his deal, which ends next summer, and the midfielder’s camp have already been in talks with United to sound out a possible move to Old Trafford.
The story also claims that Jose Mourinho remains an fan of Ozil, who he managed at Real Madrid, and will ask United’s hierarchy to work on a deal.
The midfielder, who will be available on a free transfer, has reportedly asked for a £250,000-a-week wage from Arsenal.
Inter are also keen on a deal for Ozil, but the 28-year-old’s preference is to remain in the Premier League and join a club who are looking to acquire major trophies.
In his autobiography, Gunning for Greatness, Ozil credited Mourinho for providing him with the faith to make an impact at Real Madrid.
“Real Madrid isn’t too big a move for you. Real Madrid is the only right move. Trust me. I’ll turn you into a regular player,”
“And then all the doors will be open to you. You’ll be able to show the world what you’re capable of. And, believe me, that’s a huge amount.” – said Mourinho.
