North London derby Verdict and Lawro’s Predict

TEAM NEWS

Arsenal are hopeful Hector Bellerin will be fit to play, while Theo Walcott also faces a late fitness test.
Nacho Monreal, Kieran Gibbs and Santi Cazorla are also doubts but Granit Xhaka returns after completing a three-match domestic ban.
Tottenham striker Harry Kane is available following an ankle injury, although he lacks match fitness.
Moussa Sissoko is banned, while Ben Davies, Erik Lamela and Toby Alderweireld are ruled out by injuries.
Mousa Dembele is a doubt for Sunday’s game with an ankle problem.

MOTD COMMENTATOR’S NOTES

Jonathan Pearce: “In 28 years of commentating on north London derbies I’ve been certain about one thing. You can’t be certain about anything!
“A bamboozling bender from Gazza at Wembley. Madness from Emmanuel Adebayor at the Emirates. Mere moments can brings months of misery or days of delirium in this part of the capital.
“Who will have the fittest squad after midweek European action? Theo Walcott’s hit five against Spurs. But Arsenal have strength if he misses out. Harry Kane has four in four against the Gunners. Tottenham have missed him terribly.
“It’s four league derbies without a win for Arsene Wenger. He’s never gone five without a victory.”

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAY

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: “This is more than a derby.
“It’s an important game for us because it’s a big home game and we have an opportunity to show that we have an interesting role to play in this Premier League, and that we can win these kinds of games.”
“What is important is that we focus on ourselves, on the quality of our performances. We know that we have done very well away from home, and we can do well at home. We know as well that the success of our season will depend on how well we do at home.”
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino:“Always it is important to have Harry Kane. In the last few seasons he has been very important for us.
“He was top scorer in the Premier League [last season] and always the player who is top scorer in the Premier League is important for any club.
“It is true he has a good record against Arsenal. It is important he is back and can help the team get a good result.”
LAWRO’S PREDICTION
Arsenal already have the likes of Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey available again and, apart from that blip when they were held at home by Middlesbrough, they are in excellent form.
At the moment everything is going Arsenal’s way. Spurs are still unbeaten in the Premier League, but I see that run ending this weekend.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head
  • Tottenham have only won once at Arsenal in 26 matches in all competitions since May 1993 (D10, L15).
  • That was their 3-2 win in November 2010, when they fought back from 2-0 down at half-time.
  • Arsenal are winless in their last four Premier League games against Spurs (D3, L1) – they have never gone five league games without a victory against their local rivals under Arsene Wenger. They did, however, beat Tottenham in the League Cup last season.
  • Mauricio Pochettino is unbeaten in his four league games against Arsenal since arriving at White Hart Lane. No Spurs boss has ever gone unbeaten in their first five top-flight matches against the Gunners.
  • The team scoring first has failed to win this fixture on 23 occasions, the highest number in Premier League history (15 draws, eight defeats).
  • The only previous north London derby that kicked off at noon in the Premier League was in November 2004 – Arsenal won 5-4 at White Hart Lane.
Arsenal
  • The Gunners have won 10 of their last 11 games in league and cup, scoring a total of 32 goals.
  • They have lost just one of their last 20 Premier League games (W12, D7).
  • Mesut Ozil has been directly involved in eight goals in his last five games for Arsenal in all competitions (five goals and three assists).
Tottenham Hotspur
  • Tottenham are unbeaten in their first 10 league games for the first time since the 1990-91 season.
  • Avoiding defeat would see them go unbeaten in their opening 11 top-flight matches for the third time, after 1960-61 (16 games) and 1959-60 (12 games). They finished those campaigns first and third respectively (although that was under the two points for a win system).
  • Spurs have the best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding just five goals.
  • They could draw four consecutive league matches for the first time since April 2008.
SAM’s verdict
Most probable score: 1-1 Probability of draw: 28%
Probability of home win: 47% Probability of away win: 25%
